Shawn Whitt


Shawn Whitt founded Milestone Addiction Centers in 2015. Through Shawn’s life journey, his heart and passion led him to serve those with a hurting heart, the seemingly lost soul and broken feeling individual. He found that freedom is to live out a purpose bigger than his own. Through his own life experiences of receiving love and care during times when he himself was appearing unlovable, he discovered a far greater purpose in his life. Shawn realized that the giver is more blessed than the taker. He believes to give grace when it’s not deserved, lend an ear to someone who needs to share, and love when love doesn’t seem possible.

Shawn’s life quote states that “Some want to sit within the sound of a church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue booth, within a yard from hell” – C.T. Studd. Shawn began his life of service by proudly serving in the United States Marines. Post military service, Shawn performed his undergraduate work at Vanguard University of Southern California and did his graduate work at Pepperdine University. Through his educational achievements and training, his professional career, spanning over 15 years, flourished in the Financial Private Sector. Shawn earned his Series 7, 63, 66 and Life and Health Insurance licenses. During this time, his decorated career advanced exponentially and had landmark successes in his professional endeavors.

With Shawn’s personal motivation and passion, his proven leadership skills, exceptional strategic planning and strong commitment to high ethical and professional standards, he makes a significant contribution to the Behavioral Health Industry. Shawn has always had the heart of a humble servant and works to fulfill his vision of helping others to find their purpose in life.

Myles Whittaker

Vice President

Myles has been of service to people in recovery and the treatment community for the past 15 years. Myles business savvy and passion for helping those struggling with addiction is unparallel. Myles has a strong faith that he credits to guiding him in his life’s mission. He is a devoted father and husband to his family and spends his time supporting his children in their sporting activities and family functions. Myles is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community and those suffering from the disease of addiction. Myles humble attitude and kind heart are recognized by all who have the opportunity to be a part of his life.

Andrew Maloof

VP of Business Development

Andrew Maloof began his career in the recovery industry in 2014 providing direct client care as a drug and alcohol counselor. Andrew is a proud graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management. His life experiences led him to the addiction treatment industry and he has never looked back. Andrew’s career path has diversified working in both the private and public sector throughout his tenure in treatment. Through his professional journey he has worked in multiple departments to enhance and further expand his knowledge in the Behavioral Health industry.  Andrew found his true calling as Director of Business Development, working directly with the teams who assist clients in their greatest time of need. Through humble promotions throughout the years, he now serves as the VP of Business Development for Milestone Addiction Centers. Andrew has a true passion for recovery and is grateful to be a member of the Milestone Addiction Centers team.

Jamey Kureh


Jamey Kureh is the Chief Financial Officer at Milestone Addiction Center where she manages the company’s finances with all its subsidiaries. 

Prior to Milestone, Jamey worked in the engineering corporate world (i.e. Jacobs Engineering, Worley Parsons, etc.) where she spent fourteen years in finance and Project Controls leadership roles, and most recently worked as a PCM on the California High Speed Rail projects while continuing to perform her CFO role at the company. During her tenure, Jamey was instrumental in building out the finance business support capabilities and functionalities of the company.

Outside of work, Jamey loves to travel (especially throughout Italy) and enjoys medical research and helping others. Jamey received her BS in Accounting and Computer Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona.

Jamey’s eagerness of helping others guided her to the treatment and addiction treatment industry in the hopes of making a difference.

Sedona Lazaro

Director of Admissions

Sedona has been working in the treatment industry for the past 4 years. Sedona started her career as a Support Staff, providing direct client care and gaining her foothold in the treatment field. She has held numerous positions including Lead Tech, Facility Supervisor and Marketing Representative, all which led her to her current role as Director of Admissions. Her passion for helping those struggling with addiction comes from her own personal recovery and relationships with family who struggle with addiction. Her fierce devotion to reaching people who need help and strong faith in God allow her to touch the lives of so many to help them find their path to healing and recovery.

Cesar Cabera

Executive Director

Treating those who struggle with drugs and alcohol with dignity and respect while sharing experiences, strengths, and hopes are words to live by. The trials and tribulations of Cesar’s life has taken him from the pinnacle of success to the depths of despair, but along the way, he was afforded grace. Thus, he has experienced personal growth that fuels his passion in helping people.

A native Southern Californian growing up in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, Cesar attended college at UC Irvine, and then The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1987. By practicing pharmacy for over 20 years in the retail setting, he has gained valuable experience in helping people. His struggles in the pharmacy field led him to pursue a more fulfilling and worthwhile career helping those who struggle with drugs and alcohol.

He went back to school at Saddleback College and earned a certification in Alcohol and Drug studies and is currently certified with CAADE as a CATC V and CCAPP as LAADC-CA. He is truly humbled to be in the position where he can help and impact lives of individuals who struggle with life in general.

Bobby Santangelo

Program Director

Bobby graduated from American International College in 2012 as a double major obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Following graduation he worked in the human services field as a case manager for troubled youth in the foster care system. Bobby quickly recognized the need for quality substance abuse treatment as he saw firsthand the effect that drugs and alcohol have on not only the individual but the family as a whole. Bobby is passionate about bettering the lives of individuals struggling with addiction as a result of personal experience professionally and within his immediate family as well. 

Jessica Alejo

Director of Operations

In 2014, Jessica moved to Orange County after graduating with her bachelor’s in psychology from California University Monterey Bay and found herself working in recovery where she found a strong passion for helping those suffering from addiction. Jessica began working as a house manager and worked her way up to Director of Operations due to her passion and dedication. In her position, she uses her experience and personable approach to ensure an exceptional client experience from the first day through to successful discharge. Jessica strives not only to create a safe space for our guest but also for our staff. If you would have asked her 4 years ago where she saw her life going, she would have never anticipated working in recovery but now she can’t see herself in any other field. She’s devoted in helping make a positive change alongside her team members

Alyson Brooks

Business Development

Alyson Brooks moved from Tennessee to southern California in 2014 with a background in the insurance industry. She found her niche in the drug and alcohol treatment field and quickly moved her way through the ranks of treatment facilities – working everything from detox tech to where her passion is now – business development. In this role she works tirelessly to provide treatment to those who seek freedom from the bonds of alcoholism. She has been in her current position at Milestone Addiction Centers for nearly a year and is humbled to be a part of a driven and passionate team. 

Jake Sutphin

Business Development

Jake Sutphin is part of the business development and marketing team for Milestone Addiction Centers. Jake takes a very strategic approach when developing relationships. With his outgoing personality and his ability to identify and target in on important partnerships he is a great asset to the Milestones team. 

Jake grew up on the Navesink River in Red Bank, NJ where he attended Red Bank Catholic High school and continued his studies in business management at Brookdale Community College and The University of Hartford. For the past 10 years, Jake has worked in marketing, management and the logistics field. 

Outside of work, Jake is married to his wife Alyssa who is starting her career as a school teacher. He loves to surf, travel, camp, snowboard and going on hikes with his wife and their dog Lycan. Most importantly, Jake loves to share his love and passion for life with others. 


Rick Hughes

Client Advocate

Rick Hughes serves on the executive team as the client advocate. After 35 years of active addiction, Rick turned his life around in 2008. He began his career in treatment with a relentless passion to serve the addict still suffering from their disease. Rick has held numerous titles spanning a decade of professional treatment service. Rick’s heart, passion and mission is to guide, nurture, heal and counsel both men and women to recovery and finding their life of purpose.


Michael Diaz

Operations Manager

Michael has worked in the behavioral health field for three years, beginning as support staff with Milestone Detox. Michael’s hard work, knowledge, and sincere desire to provide the best care possible have led him to his current position as operations manager.  After struggling with addiction himself he has found a passion for helping others through their journey. 


Ruya Urso


Ruya is a licensed marriage and family therapist offering supportive, strength-based therapy to her clients. She has a B.A. in psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and an M.A. in counseling with emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Webster University in Irvine, California.

Throughout her career, Ruya has worked with clients with a variety of issues and from all socio-economic, cultural and religious backgrounds. Her experience at College Hospital, a mental health facility, trained her to understand how different mental health issues can be compounded by trauma and substance abuse, and prepared her to deal with clients with a variety of mental health problems.

She has extensive experience with children, adolescents and adults who had experienced different traumas. Among her areas of experience are anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, women’s issues, adolescents’ issues and family problems. She is trained to utilize many different treatment modalities and treatment techniques depending on the client’s needs.

Ruya believes that her clients have an innate potential for growth, and with guidance and support they can persevere through difficult times. She believes in empathy, compassion, and collaboration in order for real change to happen, as well as believing that therapy can help people develop the appropriate skills to cope with challenges of life. Ruya makes it her mission to help her clients develop coping skills and make the changes they need to live a more fulfilling and productive life.


Taryn Mangan

Case Manager 

Taryn has had the unique and invaluable experience of being raised in the Safe Harbor Community. Having been exposed to the program since the age of 6 months, Taryn has literally had a lifetime of experience and exposure to substance use disorders as well as recovery.

As a child, Taryn watched her mother’s unwavering commitment and dedication the suffering women who came to Safe Harbor. Taryn witnessed Velvet’s dreams of saving lives blossom into reality. Today, women from all over the country enter the doors of Safe Harbor to be a part of the love and hope that is offered here. Taryn is inspired by the love that is shared with the women of Safe Harbor and is dedicated to continuing in her mother’s footsteps, ensuring Velvet’s legacy is preserved.

Love, respect, and compassion are the qualities that Taryn offers her clients. She believes it is an honor to witness client’s return to their true and authentic selves.

By utilizing her experience with 12-step programs, spiritual and educational teachings, Taryn supports and guides women on their journey to health, happiness and long term sobriety.


Colin Cobb

Case Manager 

Colin Cobb joined the Milestone Detox team in May 2018 after working in the behavioral health field for over 8 years. His wealth of experience and passion for those he helps is evident in his dedication to our clients. Colin says witnessing the transformation process and standing by someone navigating that journey is the most rewarding aspect of his position.


Rudy Minor

Case Manager

Rudy began working in the behavioral health field in 2007 and is currently a case manager for Milestone Detox. She obtained her associate’s degree in drug and alcohol studies, accreditation as a certified drug and alcohol counselor, and is furthering her education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human services – mental health. Her passion drives her to make a difference in the lives of individuals suffering with substance abuse.
